Pork hock

 Ingredients

  • 1 pork hock

  • 2 medium size onions, quartered

  • 3 carrots, cut to 1 inch slices 

  • 4 garlic cloves, peeled and cut in halves 

  • 1 bottle of beer 

  • 2 TBSP bouillon (or 2 cubes)

  • 3-5 bay leaves

  • 5 whole black pepper corns

  • 6 whole allspice berries

  • 1/3 cup of mustard

  • 1 dried chilli pepper

  • 1/2 cup honey

    Procedure

    1. Add oil to frying pan, use high heat to brown onions and carrots, move veggies to a big pot.
    2. In the same pan, fry garlic for 30 sec to 1 min, move to big pot. 
    3. In the same pan, brown pork hock. Turn pork to brown all sides. Put in the big pot. Move veggies around so that pork is touching the bottom of the pot.
    4. Add beer to pot. The liquid should cover 1/3 of the height of the pork, if beer is not enough, add water.
    5. Add bouillon, bay leaves, black pepper corns, allspice, mustard, pepper
    6. Set oven at 350F, cover big pot with lid, put in oven. 
    7. Bake for 2 hours till pork is soft - check with a fork.
    8. Add honey on top of pork, put pot back to oven without lid
    9. Bake for 15 minutes
